Spinners Welle is a gorgeous 300 year old thatched cottage. Full of character and period features, original fireplace, private sunny garden and off street parking. Chosen as a finalist in Airbnb's "Best Rural Stay", the cottage lies on the outskirts of Chippenham market town - perfect as a stopover to the South West or to explore the beautiful county of Wiltshire, the Cotswolds with the famous villages of Lacock and Castle Combe less than 20 minutes drive away. The UNESCO World Heritage City of Bath is an easy 15 minutes by train from Chippenham.
There are plenty of walks from the doorstep as well as fantastic pubs and shops within easy car access. Kin House event venue is just a few minutes drive or a 10 minute walk along the rural footpath.
Parking - the cottage has its own off street parking space
The Garden - there is a generous, fenced sunny garden to the front of the property. It is exclusively for use of cottage guests and includes a patio area with Morso Gas BBQ, loungers as well as a bistro dining table and chairs.
The Property - You enter the front door under the oak tiled wooden porch, straight into the generous sized sitting room with original inglenook fireplace. There is a large comfortable sofa and armchair, oak beams along with a separate dining area with a table and additional sofa. There is a newly fully fitted galley style kitchen with quarry stone tiled floor, dishwasher, electric oven and hob. Upstairs in the eaves under the thatch roof you will find a pretty shower room with toilet and basin and double bedroom with king size bed, wardrobe - and more original beams.
The Facilities - Linen and towels are provided - as well as plenty of essentials such as soap, tea, coffee and sugar. To ensure you are lovely and snug on those colder nights, there is a remote control "Rais" wood effect gas fire. Wifi, Smart TV and Nespresso coffee machine also provided, as well as a DAB/Bluetooth radio. **Please note that there isn't a washing machine. The cottage has oil fired central heating as well as extra blankets. Boots are recommended as the lane and local footpaths are great to explore but can get muddy. There are maps and guides to local walks as well as lots of useful information in the cottage folder - including local recommendations for places to eat, shop and visit. We do not yet have electric charging for cars but there are 5 x superfast charging points at Chippenham Pit Stop - a services just up the road (around 8 minutes drive away) with a cafe while you wait.
The cottage has a fascinating 300 year history including the origin of its name "Spinners Welle" and we have this story in the cottage folder.
Dogs - we welcome up to two well behaved dogs. There is a small charge. We as that dogs are not left for long periods unattended
Please note - Due to the age of the cottage (it is Grade II listed with Historic England), it does have low ceilings in places - particularly upstairs and the staircase is quite narrow but not too steep.

Ellie, February 2024. Really beautiful grade two listed cottage. Cottage was clean and comfortable. Was really sad to leave such a beautiful cottage and felt right at home. Clare is a very responsive host and the handbook was really useful for recommendations for food and visiting places.
Natasha, January 2024. The Cottage is absolutely beautiful and we felt right at home as soon as we arrived. The place was spotless and has everything you’d need, the hosts even added wine and chocolates which was a lovely touch! The cottage and surrounding areas are picturesque. Have always wanted to stay in a thatched roof cottage and this exceeded expectations. We didn’t want to leave! 11/10 would highly recommend and will definitely be booking in again! Thank you for a lovely stay
